John joined Archaeology Wales as a Project Manager in 2019 and is based in the Southwest England office in Bristol. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and has over 20 years’ experience as a professional archaeologist.
John started his professional archaeological career in 1996. He graduated with a first class honours in Archaeology from Bristol University in 2000 and gained his PhD during 2004. His Doctoral research focused on the Roman to Medieval transition in SW Britain. He joined the University of Bristol in 2005 and was also a member of Dorset County Council’s Historic Environment Team from 2005-2010. He has also worked for the Portable Antiquities Scheme in Somerset and Dorset and as Lab Manager at the University of Exeter from 2014-19 where he was also the site manager for the Ipplepen Archaeological Project.
John manages projects throughout SW England, overseeing them from set-up to post-excavation work. His specialist skills include geophysical surveying and the preparation of Desk-based Assessments.
